Why GrowthMindset?

GrowthMindset was founded on a clear belief: education extends beyond the classroom, and children thrive when families, educators, businesses, faith communities, libraries, and community organizations work together.

We create community-centered educational experiences that make literacy engaging, accessible, and meaningful. Through collaboration, GrowthMindset connects children and families with books, resources, encouragement, and opportunities that support learning beyond the school day.

That commitment led to the creation of Lansing Reads Together, our signature community literacy initiative.

The Opportunity

Literacy shapes how children learn, communicate, build confidence, and prepare for the future. Yet many students continue to

need stronger support both inside and beyond the classroom.

Michigan’s current education dashboard reports that 39.6% of third-grade students are proficient in reading. This means that fewer than half of Michigan’s third graders are meeting the state’s reading-proficiency benchmark.

The need is significant, but so is the opportunity.
